New Patients

Welcome to Maternal Fetal Medicine. We are honored that you have chosen us as your health care provider. Our practice realizes the importance of referrals and we value them greatly. Our goal is to provide the highest quality care for all of our patients in a timely and respectful manner. This letter contains answers to some of the most commonly asked questions by patients entering our practice. We hope you will find this information useful.

Location and Contact Information

Maternal Fetal Medicine is located in Loma Linda University Medical Center, 3rd floor, Suite 3400.
Our office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00AM – 5:00PM and Friday 8:00AM – 12:00PM.

In the event of an emergency outside of our normal business hours patients may call Labor & Delivery at (909) 558-4332.

First Appointment

At your first appointment you will meet with one of our nurses who will complete a review of your medical and pregnancy history. The length of this appointment differs for each patient, it can take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes based on your personal history. You may be scheduled with other providers (i.e. Diabetic Education, Just For Moms, ultrasound, etc.) based on your individual needs. Your appointment with a physician will be made for a later date.

Items You will Need to Bring to Your First Appointment

  • Complete list of all medications that you are currently taking
  • Completed health care provider form
  • Insurance card and a photo ID – Your appointment may need to be rescheduled if you cannot provide both of these items
  • Co-payment – Not everyone will be responsible for a co-payment, please contact your insurance for details on your plan.

Childcare Guidelines

We ask that you attempt to get childcare for any children under the age of 16 for your appointments. If you are unable to secure childcare, we do allow them to be present during provider visits, ultrasounds, and procedures, but they must be accompanied by another adult other than yourself. If they become disruptive they may be asked to wait in the waiting room with the responsible adult. If there is not another adult present you may be asked to reschedule your appointment. No children are allowed to be present during antenatal testing (NST) due to limited space; however, they may wait in the waiting room and must be accompanied by an adult.

Allow 30 Minutes for Parking

Since we are located in the Medical Center parking fills up very quickly and may be difficult to obtain. We ask that you allow an additional 30 minutes in your transportation time for parking.

You may park in any of the following lots: A, A+, O, and DP. Please see the map for reference.

A shuttle is provided for those that park in the O lot and cannot walk to the Medical Center. The Red shuttle is the most direct, taking approximately 10-15 minutes. To check the status of the shuttle or request pickup, call Transportation Services at (909) 651-3020.

Valet parking is available in front of the Medical Center for $4.00, it is free if you are currently disabled and can provide a disability placard. Valet parking is limited and may be full, please do not rely on this service, and continue to allow for the additional 30 minutes of transportation time.

Late/Missed Appointments

We ask that you allow plenty of time to get to the office for your appointment and check in 15-30 minutes early prior to your scheduled appointment time. You will be asked to reschedule your appointment if you are more than 10 minutes late.

Office Policy for Missed New Patient Appointments

  • The appointment will be rescheduled only once
  • Two (2) no-show appointments will result in dismissal from the practice

We will strive to stay on time. Due to the serious nature of our patient population, it is likely that a patient emergency may arise and we may be running late for your visit. You will have the option to reschedule or stay to be seen. In the event that you would like to stay to be seen we will inform you regarding expected wait time. If your wait time is expected to be more than 30 minutes, you will be updated every 15 minutes.

Cancellations

We utilize an automatic calling system that will call you 48 hours in advance of your appointment. We do understand that in today’s busy world occasionally situations come up that are beyond your control. In those instances, we do request you extend us the courtesy of a 24-hour notice. This courtesy allows us to continue to operate efficiently and use the time that was reserved for you to help other patients in need. Appointments cancelled within the same day are deemed as a missed appointment.

Preventative Care

At Maternal Fetal Medicine we practice preventative medicine as well as caring for your chronic and acute medical needs. Regularly scheduled office visits allow us to better assist you in identifying and managing any chronic health or pregnancy problems you may have. We believe this is in the best interest of both you and your baby. Being proactive about our health care can often help us to prevent and/or prolong the onset of future health problems as we age. Those patients who are consistent in keeping their appointments have fewer episodes of acute illness, less difficulty with unstable chronic illnesses, generally continue to enjoy better health overall, and have safer and healthier deliveries.
