Classes and Tours

Babies do not come with instruction manuals. Bringing them home can be both exciting and frightening for new parents. Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital offers a variety of classes and groups to help ease your transition into parenthood. Our goal is to help make your life with baby a more rewarding experience.

How to Register

  • Reservations are not confirmed until payment is received
  • No refunds will be made unless we are notified 48 hours before the date of the class
  • Classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment

Preparing For Baby Classes

Preparing for a new baby is a special time. Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital would like to support and inform you throughout your pregnancy with a wide range of prenatal classes designed to prepare you mentally, physically and emotionally for your transition into parenthood.

A fast-paced, streamlined class for couples who are unable to attend our four-week series or for those who have had a baby before and want to update their information and birthing skills.

Birth & Beyond Fitness

We offer several fitness class options that can evolve with you through your pregnancy and beyond into parenthood. Exercising throughout your pregnancy has so many benefits for you and your growing baby, such as better sleep, decreased discomfort, improved self-image, reduced stress and preparation for childbirth. Regular exercise after pregnancy can promote weight loss, relieve stress, boost your mood and restore muscle strength. In addition, exercise habits established at the beginning of motherhood can last a lifetime and provide profound benefits for the mother, baby and other family.


Moms on the Move Water Aerobics

This class is held in the outdoor pool at the Loma Linda University Drayson Center, during the warmer months. It is a low impact aerobics class that includes toning and stretching exercises in shallow water. Class is designed for moms at any stage of pregnancy and in their first year postpartum.  No children please.


Moms on the Move Yoga

This class is held in the Birth and Beyond Education center in the cooler months when the outdoor pool is not as comfortable. You will learn the physical and psychological benefits of yoga for both pregnancy and postpartum through gentle yoga poses and breath awareness. Do not miss out on this opportunity to nurture yourself and learn tools to better nurture your child. Moms only please.

Family Yoga - FREE

Moms, dads, grandparents, caregivers and kids of all ages — come join us for gentle yoga poses and breath awareness to help build core strength and balance. Child-friendly poses and song make this class fun for the whole family. No previous yoga experience is required, and mats and props are provided for first-timers.

First Sunday of every month EXCEPT April 1 and September 2, 2018
2 - 3 p.m.

Breastfeeding Basics

We want to help you succeed at breastfeeding. This class, taught by a Certified Lactation Educator, offers:

  • Demonstrations of positioning and latch
  • Explanation of babies hunger cues
  • Benefits of breastfeeding for mom and baby
  • Description of feeding patterns and common growth spurts
  • Outline of nutrition for mom
  • Ways dad can be an active participant
  • Local and online breastfeeding resources

Sibling Preparation

This class, created for kids ages 3-7, will help prepare older brothers and sisters for the arrival of a new baby. Taught by a Child Life Specialist, it includes fun activities, baby doll role-play, dressup and a tour of the birthing unit. Parents should attend class with their child(ren).

All About Newborns

This class is truly "all about newborns"! A class tailored to answer your individual questions and biggest concerns; as well as newborn care, appearance and evidence-based information from Dr. Jane Heining on sleep, crying and understanding baby behavior and cues. This class will leave you feeling excited about bringing your new baby home, and confident in what to expect in the first few weeks!


Infant & Child CPR

A hands-on class designed to teach caregivers the life-saving technique of cardiopulmonary resuscitation appropriate (CPR) to be used on newborns through eight years of age.* Skills are reinforced by practice on mannequins. Choking, childproofing and SIDS are also discussed.

Car Seat Safety for Your Child - FREE

A certified child passenger safety technician will offer basic car seat safety tips, provide visual, in-class guidance of proper car seat installation and use of car seats for infants and children, and cover laws in CA. Questions are welcome! Over 90% of all car seats are used improperly, come learn how some ways to use car seats safely and keep your child safe.

Free Maternity Tour

A tour with question and answer session approximately two hours in length. You do not need to pre-register, just meet by the information desk inside the main entrance to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

On the last Wednesday of each month, we give the tour in Spanish only. We do not provide the Maternity tour in English on the last Wednesday of the month.

**Due to the high volume and severity of flu cases we are seeing this season, Loma Linda University Health is implementing new visitor limitations within the hospital. While these temporary policies might cause inconveniences, our goal is the overall health and well-being of our patients, visitors, and hospital staff.

Effective Tuesday, January 16, visitors must be 18 years of age or older and must not be showing any evidence of influenza symptoms, including fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, or headache. Signage with this information will be going up at different entry locations throughout the LLUH Hospital campuses starting Tuesday, January 16.**

It’s Time to Eat

This class is designed for new parents who are getting ready to start solids with their 6-12 month old baby. In this class you will learn:

  • How, when and what to feed your baby
  • Healthy, fun and safe ways to feed your baby and toddler
  • Sign language words related to eating
  • How to safely, quickly and easily prepare and store your baby’s food We will calm your feeding fears and make mealtime more enjoyable for mom, dad and baby!

Free Groups

Created to give moms a place to make new friends, get support and discuss the joys and challenges of motherhood. Our Birth and Beyond Education Center has blankets, swings, play mats and toys for baby and older siblings to enjoy while mom participates in the group discussion. Moms will also have access to our Lending Library, full of popular and highly recommended books and videos to checkout. Groups meet weekly throughout the year. Families on the Move

Join us for an adult-participation movement class for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Research shows that creative movement is an essential part of a child’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. This class will include song, dance, cooperative play, sign language, body awareness and relaxation exercises. Moms, dads or grandparents are welcome! Participants should wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to remove shoes.

Moms Joining Moms

Join us to talk about the stages all moms go through in pregnancy and their first year postpartum. Group discussion and sharing is encouraged! In Tools for Togetherness, postpartum moms will be able to build their parenting toolbox by learning about sleep patterns, baby wearing, infant massage, sign language and more. In Beautiful Bellies, pregnant moms can make time in their busy schedules to discuss their concerns about childbirth and parenthood, while doing crafts for their new baby. Healthy older siblings are always welcome.

Mothers' Breastfeeding Circle

Led by a Certified Lactation Educator. We encourage moms to talk openly about their breastfeeding experiences with other breastfeeding moms. Moms can get assistance with breastfeeding problems, weigh their baby and have their feeding questions answered. Nursing chairs and pillows are available. Moms will also have the opportunity to participate in our BEST (Breastfeeding Education and Support Tribe) Beads program, in which they build their own personalized teething necklace as they progress through the breastfeeding journey. Every month, moms are encouraged to reflect upon their breastfeeding experience and choose a bead that represents their success. Leave this group feeling supported and more confident! Healthy older siblings are always welcome.
